Coastal Rail Buffs, Inc. is a nonprofit 501-C-3 organization with
the
Internal Revenue Service and membership is open to the general public.
Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, the club had weekly meetings along with other activities. Currently, we are holding our monthly business meeting via GoToMeeting. Our
membership now has grown to over thirty members. They represent many different
"walks of life" and diverse backgrounds...yet the common interest in
railroading cements our fellowship.
The purpose of the Coastal Rail Buffs, simply stated is "the enjoyment
of railroading." Basically a model railroad club, this organization is
dedicated to providing education to the general public in all areas of
model railroading. Click here to see our community education projects. This is a broad area that embraces the preservation
of historic and modern day railroading through prototypical accurate
miniatures. Beyond this the organization attempts to preserve artifacts,
memorabilia, and other items that link Savannah's railroad heritage to
present day railroading.
The Coastal Rail Buffs, Inc. is also part of the worldwide organization
of the National Model Railroad Association with a membership of over
24,000.
The Coastal Rail Buffs, Inc. activities include model and prototype railroading discussions, railroad movies, video and slide shows, lectures, demonstrations, model building projects, public shows, and open houses to help educate the public. The club has recently dismantled our two layouts for a new location in the Historic Railroad Shops, the Official State of Georgia Railroad Museum. We hope to learn soon of our new location at the museum. One of our goals is to be an asset to the City of Savannah, Coastal Heritage Society, and Historic Railroad Shops by putting in place a museum quality layout of Savannah's points of interest, to include River Street, Georgia Ports Authority, Roundhouse, etc. We will announce here when the Coastal Rail Buffs returns to meeting every Thursday (except Holidays) at 5:00 p.m. at the Historic Railroad Shops, 601 W. Harris St. Our Business meetings are on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m., currently via GoToMeeting. Check our Events page for special events.
